Diesel Price in Pakistan Today

High-speed diesel (HSD) costs Rs. 389.27 per litre in Pakistan today. The government lowered the rate by Rs. 7.69 per litre.
Truck owners, farmers, and bus operators feel this change more than most people, because diesel is the fuel that keeps goods and crops moving.
Below, you will find today’s rate, what a fill-up costs, and how Diesel Price in Pakistan Today has moved since the start of the year. If you also drive a petrol vehicle, check the petrol price in Pakistan today as well.

The Rs. 7.69 Cut: What Was Announced

The Petroleum Division announced the new prices on Monday, 19 October. They apply from Tuesday, 20 October, as Dawn reported.
Diesel fell from Rs. 396.96 to Rs. 389.27. Petrol fell by a smaller amount, Rs. 5.16, and now sits at Rs. 381.14. The government has also announced support for some vehicle owners. You can read about it in our petrol subsidy scheme guide.
What 10, 20, and 50 Litres of Diesel Cost
Many readers want to know the price of one litre of diesel. It is Rs. 389.27. Here is how that adds up:
| Quantity | Cost Today | Saved vs Old Rate |
|---|---|---|
| 10 litres | about Rs. 3,893 | about Rs. 77 |
| 20 litres | about Rs. 7,785 | about Rs. 154 |
| 50 litres | about Rs. 19,464 | about Rs. 385 |
A delivery van that fills up every day can save a few thousand rupees in a month from this cut alone.
Diesel Rates Since 10 October
Diesel barely moved for a week, then dropped in one step. The table shows the HSD rate on each notified date.
| Date | HSD Rate (Rs. per litre) |
|---|---|
| 20 Oct 2026 | 389.27 |
| 17 Oct 2026 | 396.96 |
| 16 Oct 2026 | 396.96 |
| 15 Oct 2026 | 396.65 |
| 14 Oct 2026 | 396.82 |
| 13 Oct 2026 | 396.85 |
| 10 Oct 2026 | 396.24 |
Compare this with petrol, which changed on almost every date in the same period. Diesel stayed near Rs. 397, so today’s fall stands out.
From Rs. 281 to Rs. 520 and Back: Diesel in 2026
Diesel cost about Rs. 281 per litre before the war between the US and Iran began on 28 February 2026. Prices then climbed fast and hit a peak of Rs. 520.35 on 3 April, according to Dawn.
Today’s Rs. 389.27 is Rs. 131.08 below that peak. Even so, it is still about Rs. 108 above the pre-war price. So diesel has become cheaper, but it has not gone back to where it started.
PSO and Shell: Two Price Boards, One Rate

Pakistan State Oil (PSO) lists Diesel Euro 5 at Rs. 389.27 per litre on its fuel price page. PSO also keeps an archive of past rates, which is handy if you want to look up an older date.
Shell Pakistan shows the same Rs. 389.27 on its station price board. It also offers a PDF with prices for pumps across the country. If a pump near you charges a few rupees more, ask to see its notified price.
Why Diesel Costs More Than Petrol Right Now
This surprises many people. Diesel has a lower tax than petrol, but it still costs more at the pump.
Dawn says the government charges about Rs. 100 per litre on diesel and Rs. 114 on petrol. If you remove those amounts, diesel works out to roughly Rs. 289 per litre and petrol to roughly Rs. 267. So diesel costs more before tax. This is a simple subtraction from the published numbers, and it includes company and dealer margins.
The gap at the pump is Rs. 8.13 per litre today. It was Rs. 10.66 before the cut, because diesel fell by more than petrol.
Daily Pricing: How to Keep Up With Changes
Fuel prices in Pakistan are no longer reviewed once a week. On 17 July, the Petroleum Minister said prices would be fixed daily because of changes in international markets after renewed fighting between Iran and the US.
The government asked the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) to set the rates every day. Before that, there were weekly revisions from early March.
That means the figure on this page can change tomorrow. Before a long trip or a bulk fill-up, check one of these sources:
- The PSO fuel prices page
- The Shell station price board
- The OGRA notified prices list
Who Feels a Diesel Cut the Most?
Dawn notes that diesel is mainly used in heavy transport, power plants, and large generators. So the effect spreads well beyond car owners.
- Goods transporters: lower fuel bills for trucks and loaders
- Farmers: tractors and tube wells cost less to run
- Factories and shops: cheaper fuel for generators during load shedding
- Shoppers: transport costs are part of what goods cost, so the benefit can slowly reach markets
Motorcycle and small-car owners get a different kind of help. See the PM Petrol Relief Scheme guide for details.
Diesel Price Trend This Week
The trend is down. Diesel dropped from Rs. 396.96 to Rs. 389.27 in a single revision. With daily pricing, nobody can say what comes next.
The government’s tax of about Rs. 100 per litre, the rupee, and world oil prices will all decide the next move.
The Bottom Line
Diesel is Rs. 389.27 per litre today, down Rs. 7.69, and Rs. 131.08 below the April peak. It is still well above the pre-war level, and prices can change daily. Confirm the latest rate with PSO, Shell, or OGRA before you fill up.
